US: New York Times tries podcasting experiment
New York Times journalist Andrew Revkin put together daily podcasts of the climate talks in Montreal last week. This was a first time experiment for the Times (see previous posting). Revkin suggests that if the experiment is a success and audiences are receptive, the Times will "be able to do more."
He highlighted a number of what he believes are positive aspects of the podcast: it "captures aspects of event that text can't (the singing protestors) ... (it is) an outlet for news content among folks who can't access printed page or laptop screen, or don't want to ... (it has a) different 'feel' -- more impressionistic, personal."
Along with its recent plunge into the blogosphere, it seems that new media will play an increasingly prevalent role in The New York Times' reporting.
