US: Blogger seeks two journalists for political blog
At a time when many major US papers are eliminating employees, liberal blogger Joshua Marshall, author of TalkingPointsMemo.com is hiring new journalists. Marshall wants to hire two writers to work on a new blog that will give "wall-to-wall coverage of corruption, self-dealing, and betrayals of the public trust in today's Washington."
Henry Copeland, owner of BlogAds.com, said the following about Marshall's initiative: “The New York Times has shrunk its staff 5% over the past year. Here's somebody who's tripling his staff. That's a real shocking kind of inflection point."
Marshall feels that the new blog will both “follow long simmering stories more consistently than mainstream outlets do”, and fill an important niche in the media market. On the subject of blogs, Marshall said: "There's this very broad movement out of paper publication to electronic media and particularly the Web. And we're lucky enough to be on the right side of the divide."
