Scotland: Newspaper launch
Posted by Helena Humphrey on January 5, 2010 at 2:50 PM
Media Commentator for the Guardian, Roy Greenslade, reports that it has been a difficult couple of years for the Scottish newspaper industry, with all three leading titles (The Herald, The Scotsman and the Daily Record) recording considerable losses in print revenue.
Former editor of The Scotsman's website, Stewart Kirkpatrick, has announced his intentions to launch a new newspaper in Scotland in the next few weeks. According to Kirkpatrick Scotland has a gap in its market for a high quality online title, which he believes he can provide.
Actual specifics remain vague, but Kirkpatrick says that he has his team of writers in place. Without lavish offices or expensive printing presses, the plan appears economically savvy. He insists that the publication will operate mainly online, with a print publication only being printed from time to time, and interestingly in "innovative, unexpected ways."
