Reflecting continuing growth in the digital publishing market, five organisations involved in the development of mobile applications and e-reading devices have become the latest members to join the Audit Bureau of Circulations, a forum of the world's leading magazine and newspaper publishers, advertisers and advertising agencies.
According to Editor and Publisher, both Sony; creator of the Sony Reader line of digital readers, and Plastic Logic; creator of the Plastic Logic Reader for mobile business professionals, are among two of the big name enterprises set to join the organisation, alongside current members Amazon, Texterity and Zinio.

Other new names include Bite Size Candy; creator of soon-to-launch Handstand, Scroll Motion; creators of the Iceberg Reader and Pixel Mags; a developer dedicated to bringing magazines and newspapers to the iPhone and iPod Touch.
In a statement made by ABC president and managing director, Michael Lavery highlighted the point that the market for digital editions of newsprint is a rapidly growing space, and one in which ABC member organisations are "actively engaged".
Lavery also noted that many of these mobile marketing initiatives are funded by advertisers who recognise the scope and potential of communicating directly with specific audiences, as well as the possibility of "location-based targeting".
It has been reported that the organisation is said to now be receiving requests from various newspaper and magazine publishers for mobile editions of their publications to be included in their official paid circulation figures.
Lavery said it is an exciting time to be involved in this space" and undoubtedly the positive effect this news will bring for the publications involved will also be mirrored in the credence it brings to the widely spreading concept of the e-reader.
