Fairfax Media announced today the launch of a new online platform for the best of the Australian company's political and national affairs journalism. The project, nationaltimes.com.au, will be in action from August. It will showcase the best of the company's commentaries, analysis and opinion writing.

The project is symbolic of the revival of the National Times brand and the reinvigoration of journalism emanating from the company, according to Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Brian McCarthy. The National Times was published as the masthead of the Fairfax group, from 1971 to 1976.

"The National Times brand was synonymous with intelligent and thought-provoking journalism," announced Mr McCarthy.
"It informed and encouraged debate on the important issues of the day and that will be the commitment of our new online site", he added. "I believe it will be a beacon for all those people with an interest in politics, policy and current affairs.''
To encourage debate, dialogue will be facilitated by a number of interactive devices allowing readers to post their own views.
Fairfax Digital Chief Executive Officer Jack Matthews said, "We are committed to developing a dynamic and intelligent site that gives people a platform to participate in and enrich the national discussion".
The nationaltimes.com.au will be published on Fairfax's leading news sites: smh.com.au, theage.com.au, brisbanetimes.com.au and watoday.com.au.
Fairfax Media and its subsidary Fairfax Digital are in midst of much development and diversification of its reporting coverage.
