Getty Images and Agence France-Presse have announced a new global video partnership which will allow both companies to market their video in English through the other. Its is a new development in a long standing collaboration between the two, and will allow the AFP to "complement with entertainment material its already richly varied service on current affairs, politics, the environment, lifestyle and fashion".
Erik Monjalous, AFP's group sales and marketing director, explained that the extension of the partnership into video media a logical progression for both parties. Lee Martin, Getty's senior vice president of sales for Europe and Asia Pacific said "the daily distribution of AFP's multiple news stories from around the globe is an excellent addition to our editorial, archive, and creative footage collections".
Video, as Monjalous points out, is "a medium in worldwide expansion". It is an increasingly important part of news reporting, and is well integrated into many news sites. This development in the Getty and AFP partnership displays the increasing importance and presence of multimedia in journalism.
