Primedia introduces Eyewitness.co.za

Primedia Broadcasting has spoken out about Eyewitnessnews.co.za, a news site operating as a separate entity from Primedia's four existing radio stations.  The site offers 24-hour news coverage, and its primary function is to provide news content for the radio stations owned by Primedia to broadcast.

However, Ryan Till the company's COO explains that Ewn.co.za has been operating as a newsroom for some time, 'we've always had loads of content - more than we're ever able to use on air'.  He also points out that Eyewitness.co.za already effectively has an audience of 3 million via its usage over the Primedia radio stations.  Whilst the Ewn.co.za brand will be developed further, the focus for the moment is on promoting it through the radio stations.
For Primedia, Ewn.co.za is an outlet for the citizen journalism that they encourage amongst their listeners, enhancing the station's interactive relationships with their audience, asking for contributions and 'feeding it back to them - on and off air'.  Citizen journalism is increasingly used in all aspects of media, as readers, listeners and viewers alike demand a more active role.
