US: Politico expands content-sharing deal
Posted by Lauren Drablier on December 3, 2008 at 10:22 AM
In the last three months since Politico launched a content-sharing network with websites and newspapers, it has signed on more than 100 clients, including 67 newspapers.
According to Politico's executive editor, Jim Vandehei, "The more people who hear about it, the more they come to us. We have government news, analysis, and they get the content they like and share the revenue."
Some of the newspapers that have signed up for the content sharing deal include: The Arizona Republic, The Des Moines Register, The Indianapolis Star, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and The Philadelphia Inquirer. In addition, McClatchy has signed on to use the content for its Washington bureau Web site, according to Editor & Publisher.
The Politico Network works through a system of exchange - content for advertising placement. Different packages are available that provide anywhere from five to 15 Politico articles per week.
Content-sharing deals have been growing recently as an epiphenomenon of a series of changes in the newspaper industry including tougher financial times and changes in the Associated Press' pricing scheme.
