UK: Search deal reached between Yahoo! and Virgin Mobile

Online search engine Yahoo! is now offering Virgin Mobile's 4.4 customers mobile search possibilities through the Virgin Media Portal, strengthening its mobile presence.
The new portal will allow access to news, video, music and games, as well as Yahoo's oneSearch Internet search service, which the online giant claims "intuitively returns results directly on the first screen." This feature means that customers won't have to navigate through numerous links to find the information they need.
This is the latest step in search engines' hypertrophic expansion in the mobile market. The deal takes Yahoo's share of the UK mobile search market to 80%, including similar deals with Orange, O2, 3 and T-Mobile.
By early 2009, Yahoo and Virgin Media plan to deliver "sponsored search results" and "contextually served sponsored listings" within the Virgin Media mobile portal.
Integrating Yahoo oneSearch into the portal ensures that customers "have all the information they need at their fingertips," managing director of Virgin Mobile Graeme Oxby said.
Yahoo oneSearch, which partners with 70 mobile operator partners, "revolutionizes" the mobile search experience, managing director of Connected Life Europe Mitch Lazar said, because it delivers "relevant answers to queries that mobile users have while on-the-go."
