US: Google considers pre-installing new browser

Google is upping the browser war against Microsoft in considering pre-installing its Chrome browser on personal computers.
Chrome, launched in September, is direct competition for Microsoft's Internet Explorer in a "battle to dominate how users access and interact with the web," The Times is reporting.
Internet Explorer currently has a 71.3% market share worldwide, while Chrome is used by less than 1% of web users, according to the Times. Chrome is "still under public testing."
Google Vice Presient of Product Management Sundar Pichai said that a final version should be available by January, and is looking to make Chrome the "browser of choice for the everyday user."
The goal is to pre-install the browser on MacIntosh or Linux software in the first half of 2009, and allowing it to be used on almost 99% of computers worldwide. The idea of pre-installation on computers follows Internet Explorer's action against Netscape Navigator in the late 1990s, which made the browser the default choice for most web users.
