UK: Record traffic for newspaper sites in October

All ABC-audited UK publishers saw record web traffic in October, due in large part to the coverage of the "build up" to the US presidential election and the economic crisis, which made up for the interstices of regular reporting, according to Guardian.co.uk.

Figures by the Audit Bureau of Circulations Electronic show that Guardian.co.uk recorded more than 25 million unique users in October, marking its fifth month "as the most popular UK newspaper website."
Of its users, 10 million were in the UK alone.  The total figures marked an increase of 7% from September and 41% from last year.

Following the trend, number two in the UK market, Telegraph.co.uk, increased 109% since October 2007 to have more than 23 million unique users last month.

MailOnline "overtook" Times Online to round out the top three with more than 21 million unique users.  Both marked an increase over 50% from last year.

Sun Online, Independent.co.uk, and Mirror Group Digital also saw increases in users from September and year over year.
