In February 2008 the News & Star launched a photo gallery of regions criminals who have been sentenced to two or more years in prison.  Since then, the Banged Up gallery has become one of the sites most popular pages and has attracted more than 60,000 viewers a month.

According to Ian Brogden, online editor of publisher CN Group, minimal editorial input is required to maintain the gallery.  Journalists are in charge of monitoring and updating images.  The pictures are a combination of the paper's own and those supplied by the police.

Brogden also explained, "If the paper announces a new upload of images to the gallery - the next of which is scheduled for tomorrow - the figure (readership) can double."
