UK: Financial Times launches The Long Room
Posted by Lauren Drablier on October 27, 2008 at 8:49 AM
On October 27, the Financial Times launched a new discussion area for its blog-site, Alphaville. The new area is entitled The Long Room after a famous pub in London.
The chat room will emulate the pub by creating virtual discussion tables that registered users can sit at and join the discussion. Users can also start their own discussion tables. Users will be able to contribute text comments along with documents and multimedia contributions.
According to FT.com managing direction, Rob Grimshaw,
"Advertisers will be able to sponsor tables and put forward ideas for
tables if they want to have a discussion on a particular topic."
The discussions will be moderated by FT journalists. According to Grimshaw, "Alphaville is about taking FT journalism into new areas. It's about the devolution of the editorial team as well and taking on board web ways of working. It's one of the key parts of that as well as the graphics team and the video team."
