Zambia: New website launched: The Watchdog
Posted by Lauren Drablier on September 17, 2008 at 1:03 PM
Newly launched Zambian website, The Watchdog, is expected to change the media terrain in the country, according to Lloyd Himaambo, the paper's editor.
"This is the first, and maybe only one for sometime to come, Zambian news website that will be updated as news happens," said Himaambo in an interview with Bizcommunity.
Himaambo stated that most Zambian news sites are only updated once a day and usually contain old news stories. "We update immediately [when] we get the news. We believe this is the status of the technology."
He also expects that the new site will help Zambians living outside of the country have access to news and information. "They depend on international media, which is only interested in big tragedies leaving out news that affects Zambians daily."
The Watchdog aims to bridge the gap between the international media and local media in order to ensure that there is a reliable news source.
Himaambo also informed Bizcommunity that they are currently working on partnerships with local radio stations so they can re-broadcast Watchdog news on the radio.
"For now, we are only updating daily occurrences in the country but we will soon embark on serious investigative journalism," he said.
