UK: Twitter membership soars by 631%

Twitter membership has risen by an astounding 631% in the last year. Twitter is a "microblogging" website where people can express their view in 140 characters or less.
More than three million "tweets" are sent every day, and 10 per cent of all Twitter users are based in the UK.
Twitter was even used to break the news of the Chinese earthquake in May, while information about the earthquake in Japan also appeared on Twitter before it was reported by mainstream media.
