Hearst Interactive developing Kindle-like e-book reader

Posted by Carolyn Lo on April 7, 2008 at 9:29 AM
Hearst Interactive, the digital media investment division of Hearst Corp, is developing a Kindle-like e-book reader called FirstPaper.

The startup, based in Palo Alto and New York City, will be built on Linux and will reportedly include some variation of the technology behind Mozilla. Instead of a small, hardback reader like Kindle, Hearst plans on a tabloid paper size flexible screen. Former head of Sony Reader's e-book store, Lee Shirani is FirstPaper's SVP.

Hearst has also invested in the electronic display technology firm E-Ink, which supplies its technology to Sony Reader.
