US: LA Times to feature breaking news on billboards
Posted by Kelley Vendeland on March 7, 2008 at 9:16 AM
Clear Channel Outdoor is launching a third network of digital billboards in LA, and the LA Times has purchased space on 10 billboards, the latest move in a series of new initiatives in the Times newsroom.
Although video is not included, the 10-color LED billboards feature static photos that can be changed almost instantaneously, allowing the Times to put up a continuous reel of stories.
Clear Channel has even customized the billboards, making it possible to change displays rapidly in order to keep up with spur-of-the moment decisions by the paper's editorial and marketing departments.
The initial campaign, launched on March 5th, will last 10 weeks. Additional billboard advertising is planned for the Summer Olympics and the presidential election.
