Two tools for your newspaper site: Yahoo! Pipes and Wufoo

Posted by Jean Yves Chainon on March 6, 2008 at 10:51 AM
Journalist and blogger Howard Owens examines two free online tools that can help enhance newspaper sites. They require some technical adaptations but your IT team will know what to do with them.

Yahoo! Pipes is an application that automatically creates related links from one story on a newspaper site to another by comparing content in the articles. "With a few more tweaks to help narrow the range of possible matches, as well as adding the ability for editors to manually add a related link, we've now got something that works pretty darn good," wrote Owens.

Wufoo is a friendly online form-builder. According to blogger Nick Sergeant, it's so easy to use that even reporters and editors could use to add interactivity to a story package. Google Forms offers a similar solution.
