France: 20 Minutes sets up a contest for mobile reporters

France's 20 Minutes has set up a "game" where civilians can become reporters with their mobile phones and win prizes such as a Wii or iPod Touch.

20minutes.pngIf someone witnesses an event out of the ordinary such as a road accident or the birth of a leopard, they can take a picture with their mobile phone and send in the story with a caption via text message. The message will arrive directly to the editors who will then verify the information before publishing.

Mobile reporters will be paid in 100 Swiss francs for photos published at the national level or in the daily and 50 Swiss francs for a publication in a regional edition. 20 Minutes reserves the right to resell the photos or videos.

This is a great way to involve readers in the journalism process and to generate local news and interest.
