US: CBS Mobile personalizes news and makes searching easier

Starting this week, the CBS Mobile Web site will have a tool that sifts through click-histories of every story on the site and find patterns in users' clicks. Then the tool will recommend the most relevant Web content based on what other users with similar interests are reading and clicking on. The site will display the suggested articles under "Your Headlines" because the content suggestions are user-driven and will change throughout the day.
In the future, CBS hopes to also deliver targeted mobile advertising as well. For example, a story about new high-definition TVs might have a Sony TV advertisement next to it.
Websites such as BusinessWeek.com and WashingtonPost.com already utilize the Aggregate Knowledge technology.
"What we are really trying to do is make the discovery of content on the phone much easier and more relevant than it is today," said Jeff Sellinger, Executive Vice President of CBS Mobile. "If we can make it easier to get to content that people want, they'll have a much better experience and they'll come back."
