Leading French daily Ouest-France is to delve into online videojournalism for the upcoming municipal elections, with three mobile studios that will provide coverage from about 50 different cities.

The video items will includes portraits and interviews of candidates, which will be published online on Ouest-France’s site and maville.com.

The operation, dubbed “2008 Municipal Videotour,” will mark a new step in the paper’s online presence, aiming to make video “a constitutive element of the newspaper’s multimedia sites,” said Ouest-France editor Jean-Luc Evin.

After the municipal elections, the paper will extend its video coverage, starting with major events, before it starts covering actual news items. This move comes as part of the paper’s gradual implementation of integrated print-online journalism.
