Swedish daily launches world's first "newspaper" telephone

The Swedish daily Dagens Nyheter has announced the launch of the world's first "newspaper" telephone. The company has created a mobile phone offering the newspaper's subscribers direct and free access to its website.
"We want our readers to be able to follow the news even when they're in places where they cannot lay their hands on a paper or (access the Internet on) a computer," said Thorbjoern Larsson, the editor-in-chief and publisher of the Dagens Nyheter.
Subscribers can purchase the Nokia 6120 mobile phone on the paper's website with a 199-kronor (£15) monthly call plan. They can then access the newspaper's website by hitting a special Dagens Nyheter button on the phone.
"After we announced the launch this morning, we received so many calls that our switchboard broke down. There's a lot of interest out there," said Larsson.
"Many people (in Sweden) think it's complicated (to surf the Internet on their mobile phones) and they don't know how much it costs," said Johan Othelius, the paper's head of marketing. "Now we're removing that obstacle."
