UK: Regional Express & Star creates weekend soccer video site

The tech-savvy regional newspaper the Express & Star of Wolverhampton has started Sporting Star Live, a video-centric weekend soccer news site.

The site includes bulletins with squad news, half-time and full-time scores and reporters’ analysis, along with text goal and booking alerts.

Visitors to the site also have a chance to leave their opinions before, during, and after the game.

Video bulletins start at 6pm on Friday and Saturday starts with a 2:45pm team news update, then half-time dispatches from reporters around the grounds.

The Express & Star proved that even regionals can produce advanced online video (after going through the Press Association’s training program). This is a perfect example of a niche product that can help strengthen a local paper's ties with its community.
