Tribune launches branded channels on YouTube

Posted by Evan Fell on November 30, 2007 at 1:12 PM
Tribune Interactive is launching branded channels for its newspapers and TV stations on YouTube. The move is said to be about “leveraging” and enhancing public exposure for Tribune and local content for YouTube.

The focus differs a bit between newspapers and TV.

The newspapers, like Chicago Tribune, will have “timely local content, including the latest news coverage, sports commentary, arts and entertainment news, product demos and human-interest clips.”

The TV stations, like WGN, will have “popular news clips, celebrity interviews, feature stories and unique local video content.”

At this point, there has been no mention of advertising sales, revenue sharing, or any business model.

In other news regarding Tribune, a decision is expected to be made by the FCC today, regarding the waiver on the cross ownership ban so that Tribune can hopefully go foward with its privatization plans.

Newspapers don't have to be the size of Tribune to leverage the opportunities on video sharing sites like YouTube. As I recently wrote on my blog, YouTube offers many free ways to brand your profile page. And newspapers of all sizes should use the site to push their video AND their audio slides shows and other graphic materials. Taking advantage of this opportunity will increase audience and help with overall branding.
