Future of online video holds semi-professional class of content producers

"It feels to me that the professional content is where the real growth is going to be,” said Geoffrey Coco, a member of a panel of executives talking about performance metrics during the OMMA Video conference in Hollywood.
Coco acknowledges that user generated content is important and can be quality and practical, but says, "there are whole cities--New York and Los Angeles--based on the economy of video production, television production, and movie production, and they're going to ramp up over the next decade."

The panelists felt as though UGC was best for companies willing to take a risk and experiment.

Joseph Dumont
, partner and managing director of Questus, feels that ultimately there will be a mix between professional content and UGC. The professionalism is going to leach into the genre, according to Dumont, he feels as though UGC auteurs also want to "come up with stuff that's engaging and relevant to the user." Mark Naples of WIT Strategy thinks that eventually this will lead to a class of 'semi-professional' content producers.
