Mobile bar codes drive 25% of magazine traffic

Posted by Jean Yves Chainon on October 5, 2007 at 1:10 PM
According to the French association of multimedia mobiles (AFMM), the use of bar codes in magazines this summer was very successful. 15% to 25% of traffic to the websites of Public, Closer, and Voici were generated thanks to users coming through the bar codes.

The bar code technology enables users to access online content on their phone by taking a photography of the code, inserted in the paper, with their mobile.

Users must first download a special application, Flashcode, in order to identify the bar code and access the content.

In July and August, there were about 30,000 downloads of the Flashcode software.

“One of the main priorities now will be to gradually pre-equip mobile devices with the Flashcode software, so that the user doesn’t have to download it," said Nicolas Guieysse, from the AFMM.

Much of the near future of mobile - and online - news could have to do with this technology.

Merriman, Harford County Public Defender/BJ Sams, Ravens DUI Cases. Here's what happens to a normal person in lesser circumstances, that is, not a harford country public officer or a ravens football player. Stopped late at night alone, nobody around but harford county sheriff & myself. Stopped for failing to use turn signal at night, not a car in sight at an intersection where I had to go right anyway. Told officer the truth, had one vodka drink over two hours.Weigh 240 lbs. When asked to do sobriety test, told officer that I had a very bad ankle which is the truth, also 65 years old. Driving record, 0 points & incidents in 25 years, also drive 50,000 miles per year. Pretty good record. Never been in trouble whatsoever in 65 years. Tells me I performed poorly, slaps me in handcuffs & says I am under arrest. No offer of breath test. Now under arrest, shove rudely in back of police car. At my age could have had a bad heart. Sams was let off for reasonable doubt because no video tape of test. Neither was I taped, nor given any allowance for a very bad ankle. After 15 minutes asks me in a very quick fashion, blow into this. I said: Sir I am under arrest, why should I do that now, will it do me any good. No answer. Back to station in handcuffs, then to detention center. Never broke a law in 65 years. Get lawyer: Learn one thing: In harford county, sheriff testimony in district court is considered prima facie evidence. In other words, can't defend yourself & please don't anger the judge or you will definitely go to jail. AGAIN IN 65 YEARS, NO POINTS NEVER DONE A THING WRONG. Given probation without verdict, first time, must be alcohol free for 24 months & had to pay for & go for alcohol evaluation. Result: Man doesn't need to come back here because he doesn't have a problem. I am not a real drinker. Costs about $7000.00 for 2 years. Funny thing: Everything must be paid in cash or moneyorder. NO PAPER TRAIL FOR THE IRS. If a small business owner like myself only accepted cash or money order, the IRS would be on my trail. The long & short of it, I was an ordinary citizen, not a public political official or a rich football player with 2 offenses in 10 months. Bill
