Mobile users in the leading market in mobile Internet, Japan, access the Internet 40 times per month on average, while the global average of users sending text messages is 87 percent.
This “Anytime, Anyplace” study, based on 10,000 Internet-connectable mobile phone users in 21 countries, will be released soon.
American users outpaced other markets in making calls, which accounts for 65 percent of mobile phone use.
The study also indicates that U.S. multimedia services is reviving domestically, but still lower than the global average – 24 percent have downloaded a game on their mobile phones, lower than the 31 percent worldwide.
A possible reason mobile multimedia services usage is modest is that U.S. users may switch to other portable devices for video watching, gaming, etc. The study shows that 60 percent own at least two other mobile devices such as an iPod or laptop.
