With Blogfusion, newspapers join blogging community

Posted by Mica Swyers on June 19, 2007 at 9:47 AM
Many newspapers with blogs are reaching readers with a program called Blogfusion, which aggregates posts about the same topic onto a single website.  This blog aggregating software has given newspapers the chance to break into the Internet phenomenon of social networking.

Brainbrand Technology Services hosts the aggregating software, which it markets as a new way for newspapers to connect with their audiences.  Newspapers using Blogfusion can see which blogs and topics are most popular, and readers can quickly join blog communities related to their specific interests.

According to Dave Livingston, co-founder of Brainband, newpapers can use Blogfusion to “mine research data, assess the latest opinions about articles and choice of news topics, or to foster internal communication of the newspaper itself.”  With an internal search engine and RSS feeds, Blogfusion also lets visitors find blogs easily and keep up to date on the newest posts.

“With Blogfusion, you’re not on an island anymore” says co-founder James Bandy, “As part of an online newspaper community, you have a greater chance of being heard.”  ***UPDATED*** Seeing as a 2006 New York University study found that the top 100 American newspapers already have integrated blogs into their daily news production, Bandy and Livingston are encouraging those with smaller circulations to take advantage of Blogfusion's social networking capabilities to reach a more readers.
