New York Times’ announces “City Room” for NYC readers

Posted by Mica Swyers on June 19, 2007 at 3:56 PM
The New York Times will target the New York City community with “City Room,” a blog and online community for city residents, headed by Times Metro reporter Sewell Chan.  Through this online venture, the company will specifically address New York City citizens with information relevant to their location.

Its most ambitious online experiment to date, City Room will cover news and information from New York’s five major boroughs and occasionally, the outer-lying suburbs.  The New York Times hopes to use its base of Metro reporters, trained in traditional journalistic methods, in addition to multimedia reporting (Web videos, blogs, and expanded Times photography) to cover issues such as government, crime and public safety, education, housing, and various neighborhood concerns.

Catering to the New York City population, City Room will constantly evolve as it responds to user feedback.  Readers will soon be able to ask questions of Times journalists through a series of Q&A sessions, and developers will frequently revise multimedia content per user demand.  “…as City Room evolves, Sewell will constantly experiment with new ways to engage readers,” says Joe Sexton, metropolitan editor for The Times, “And we expect that it will become increasingly informative, expansive and entertaining.”

It's odd that someone who resigned in protest at 'conformism in the Ameican media' should find it acceptable that the leftist/liberal media can say what they like, but that the exercise of the same freedom by rightwing media is 'problematic'.

Well, now Art published anti-semitic cartoons on page 54 of New Yorker issue of 02.27.2006.
Not bloody funny.

Regarding the Feb. 27 New Yorker cartoons: they are brilliant. They use extreme anti-Semitic images in a way that in fact subverts the entire anti-Semitic project. NO, they're not funny--who says cartoons have to be funny?
