US: LA Times seeks interactivity

Posted by Jean Yves Chainon on May 18, 2007 at 12:46 PM
Not really news, but the Los Angeles Times is seeking more ways to include user-generated content and social networking features, following the success of its “Your Scene” feature, which allows users to upload photos.

“We've been wanting to add some sort of social networking, profiling or forums for some of the more popular categories -- Your LA, Your Neighborhood, Pets and Animals, Home and Garden, for example,” wrote Bettie Rinehart, Editor for Reader Interactivity.

The LA Times is thus calling on its readers to suggest where and how they would like to have more publishing and interactive power.

The LA Times, as many other major US newspapers, is seeking to increase its social networking features as well as its reliance on users for news coverage.
