The year of the mobile, FT steps first

Following the year of social networks and Web 2.0, this will be the year of the mobile boom, predicted former WB network head Jed Petrick. Looks like the Financial Times (FT) heard him, since it just launched a new mobile news reader service.
In upcoming months, a recent deal between NBC and MediaFlo will grant live mobile access to full episodes of NBC News programmes, including “Today,” “Nightly News” and “Meet the Press.”

Other broadcasters, including MTV, CBS and Fox have made similar deals with MediaFlo.

Newspapers are also further implementing mobile features into their proposed services.

The FT Mobile News reader is free, and gives users access to news, comments and analysis, stock valuations and a 30-day search function. Subscribers will have access to premium content. The readers will also benefit from some customization features based on their reading habits.

You were hoping to take a breath after revamping your paper’s online edition? It’s already time to start working on mobile services.
