Monster follows suit with Yahoo and signs on newspapers

Monster Worldwide Inc., the online job search leader, announced partnerships with four newspaper publishers on Monday. The partnership came shortly after rival Yahoo announced its partnership with over 150 newspapers for its own Yahoo HotJobs site.
The agreement involves newspapers such as The Orange County Register, The Record of Bergen County or the Honolulu Star-Bulletin. Monster is now partnered with 43 newspapers and eight television stations.
Under the agreements made, Monster will create a job search site that will carry the ads from the partnered papers and from Monster. The original Monster website will also carry those ads in its central database, and in exchange the newspapers will display Monster’s logo on their job listings.
The Houston Chronicle reported that “Peter Newton, the general manager of small and mid-sized businesses at Monster, said the newspaper deals were part of a strategy to expand the company's reach into local media outlets, centered on newspapers.”
There were no precisions on how the revenues will be distributed between Monster and the newspapers, but this initiative should give a second breath to employment classified advertising. This traditional source of revenue for newspapers has been recently put in jeopardy by the surge of online competition.
