Frédéric Filloux reported on recent surveys into digital readership. One found that French news consumers spend more time a day on digital publications (37 minutes) than on print press (22 minutes). Other results suggest that apps are still far behind the browser when it comes to news consumption.

Northcliffe Media has closed the three editions of its Recorder series in Nottingham - Nottingham Recorder, the Nottingham & Long Eaton Recorder, and the Mansfield & Ashfield Recorder, Journalism.co.uk reported. The company didn't disclose the number of jobs affected.

Roy Greenslade discussed the future of The Independent under the new editor Chris Blackhurst. He noted that any future strategy would have to address the issue of the paper's digital presence, as the newspaper has far fewer online readers than other comparable newspapers.
