Jack Shafer of Slate has been left unimpressed by Tina Brown's new Newsweek, which he says suffers from a "Meacham-esque avoidance of newsiness and the week," referring to former editor Jon Meacham. "I expected a lot more from her," he added.

A former Associated Press reporter, Dan Robrish, started a newspaper from scratch a year ago and is now on the verge of turning a profit, Editor & Publisher reported, with The Elizabethtown Advocate.

CNN is launching "The CNN Freedom Project: Ending Modern-Day Slavery," reported Radio Netherlands Worldwide. "Throughout 2011, CNN's reporting will expose the horrors of modern-day slavery, highlight the growing efforts to stop the trade and exploitation of human beings and amplify the voices of the victims," it said.

In a release posted on Poynter, Reuters announced that it would start to distribute Hollywood TV's paparazzi-style footage of celebrities to its 700+ service users around the world.

To mark International Women's Day, Reporters Without Borders has released a report on the problems of women who work as journalists. "It reaffirms several important principles," the site says, and "contains interviews with women journalists throughout the world and describes all the different problems they encounter, ranging from everyday discrimination to the most tragic forms of violence."
