The fact that people find value in connecting with each other leads to building the value of your business and your brand, Jeff Reifman, founder of NewsCloud said at the 17th World Editors Forum in Hamburg where he was briefly speaking about the development of the online journalism and social media.
He said: "We should make use of today`s technologies as they are providing the opportunity to create something new and suitable for the today`s demands." And he emphasized that readers want to be involved in the process. "Internet gives readers the opportunity not only to get information but also to interact, and this is not the entertainment for them, that`s what they really need today", he said.
Reifman is trying to find "a different approach" how to monetize journalistic content - one of the main topics of this year's World Editors Forum.
"There is definitely a business-model-problem with journalism." Therefore he has created the open-source software "NewsCloud" in 2006, which allows Facebook-users to interact with each other on news and important issues of the day. "It is not just entertainment", Reifman said.
The former Microsoft group program manager said, he wanted to "move beyond just comments". He aims for "telling stories and trying to get them out to as many as possible." People find value in connecting with each other, Reifman said. "It builds the value of your business and your brand", he said t the many journalists and editors-in-chief attending the Forum.
"Social media is just a piece of the puzzle, not the solution itself", Reifman concluded.
