Cases i Associats' Francisco Amaral on keys for success

Knowledge of the audience, clearly defined values, talented staff, being newsy and having time to do proper reporting are the five main points for media success, said Francisco Amaral, the director of Editorial Design Studio Cases i Associats, Spain.

"It is as if the newsroom should be the mirror of its readers", argued Francisco Amaral. Journalists need to "catch up with the society" and keep in mind their audience. As an example he mentioned the two cases of successful media outlets Correio braziliense - a Brazilian paper - and Trome - a Peruvian paper.

Although design is important, Francisco Amaral explained that newspapers need to focus on the content, on making it attractive to their audience. "For this they need staff talented in processing the news, reporting and editing", he said. He stressed that journalists also need time to offer the audience in-depth news coverage.

We are covering the 17th World Editors Forum on our Twitter feed @NewspaperWorld (#WEFHamburg) and the European Journalism Centre is live-streaming a selection of sessions.
