Fox News has recently reported the launch of a its new website Fox News Insider, WebNewser reports. The site, which focuses on an integration of social media, allows for users to post on a "live wall" and displays the tweets of Fox correspondents in a Twitter Tracker. Other features of the site include an open question and a poll to which users can respond.
This move by Fox News is one in a string of many web site redesigns focused on integrating social media and making the site more accessible to users. Like Newsweek's recent website redesign, Fox's redesign appears to be in response to the growing popularity of social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. Surely, Fox News hopes that their new, more social site will attract a younger readership of internet-savvy online news-seekers.
So far, user reviews on the site's LiveWall are positive. With many users sending their thanks to Fox and one saying News Insider is a "site I will keep logged in all day." The site further encourages user interaction by a system of reward stars, which users earn according to how active they are on the site. Once a user has earned 4 gold stars, he/she become "insider's insiders and a good citizen to boot," says the website.
News websites' move toward providing space for greater freedom of public expression will hopefully engage users in a more personal way; however, so far it has run into a few problems. At any rate, considering the ever-increasing popularity of sites like Facebook and Twitter, perhaps Fox website's integration of social media will perpetually pique user's interest and generate a sustained popularity for the site.
