Le Groupe Figaro, owners of French daily newspaper Le Figaro, have recorded good results in 2009, Tarif Media reports.
The group's websites include news website Lefigaro.fr, culture and entertainment website Evene.fr, and sports website Sport24.fr, and others. These sites posted total revenue up by 11% at the end of October.
The print daily will still post a loss this year. This is compensated by the stronger performance of other areas including digital, magazines, and cultural publications.
During an annual conference this week, Director of Strategies, Studies and Communication Luciano Bosio reported that the group had posted good results this year.
Bosio said that he believes that the price of advertising is set to rise again, a trend he has already been observing for two months. "That is not to say that everything will be like it was before," he said.
This news comes a week after Le Figaro announced it would launch the New York Times supplement the Times International Weekly. It will take over this section from Le Monde, which stopped running it to cut costs. Is this a wise move, considering the print edition isn't operating at a profit? Only time will tell.
