The bag and newspaper industries may seem like an unlikely coupling, yet in Moscow, it seems it's quite logical.
The GazetaPacket, is both a grocery and a free daily newspaper. The bag-paper contains advertisements, news items, crosswords and meal recipes.
The product, created by a Moscow firm, has been on free distribution since August 2008.
As the print newspaper industry strives to boost circulation and advertisement revenues, creative juices have been flowing in a variety of editorial and production directions. A number of bizarre initiatives have come out of the news woodwork: US Ink has produced a lickable "Taste-it" note, which allows consumers to taste a product, by licking the advertisement. Developers may also want to take a look at Bill Shein's extravagant suggestions for crowd-drawing innovation, this include martini flavoured ink, edible pages and naked women on the cover. These may be eyebrow raisers, but in the current economic crisis, the highly practical newspaper bag model may win over readers for its utility.
