Al Jazeera increases digital presence, launches mobile site

In addition to increasing its international presence, Al Jazeera has announced that it has launched a mobile news site. Most recently, Al Jazeera released video coverage of the events taking place in the Gaza Strip for free because it is one of the only news organizations currently allowed in Gaza.

The new mobile news service is both in English and Arabic and will carry Al Jazeera headline news, business reports and sports coverage, reports Brand Republic.

The director of Al Jazeera Network Wadah Khanfar stated that the "services would broaden Al-Jazeera's worldwide accessibility, offering a portal to people who only access the news via their mobile phones." This could prove key to providing coverage of the conflict in Gaza since only three cities (Burlington, Vermont; Toledo, Ohio; and Washington, D.C.) in the United States receive the Al Jazeera television channel.
