USA Today has announced that it will now be available daily on Amazon's Kindle, at a cost of $12 per month. The Kindle, which was launched in November 2007, is an e-book reader to which users can download and read books. Such was its popularity upon its release just over a year ago that the gadget remained sold out for nearly 5 months.
The paper is by no means the first to take this step: it joins other major names such as the Financial Times, the New York Times and Le Monde - examples of how global this project is. Users can subscribe to a number of daily newspapers through the Amazon online Kindle Store.
Nor is it the first time that USA Today has embraced new technology - its iPhone application was announced in December.
The Kindle is another kick in the teeth for the printed press, a further technological advancement that renders it increasingly redundant in the modern world. The competition of newspapers with the Internet, and the complexities of the paid online content model continue - and the future of printed papers is still undecided.
