US: US News to become monthly magazine

Five months ago US News and World Report announced it would drop its frequency from weekly to every other week. As of November4, it has changed plans and announced that it will become a monthly magazine.

US News has recently seen deep staff cuts, falling circulation numbers (far behind those of Time and Newsweek) and rising competition from The Economist and The Week.

It has shifted from providing news and information about recent events to providing consumer advice about rankings of colleges, hospitals and other institutions.

According to a memo circulated by the magazine's editor, Brian Kelly and president, Bill Holiber, the magazine plans on accelerating its focus on Internet publishing and more specific topics including; national and world news, opinion, health, money, business, education, rankings and reviews.
