Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive invests in SocialMedian

SocialMedian, a yet-to-launch social news site created by Jason Goldberg, former chief of Jobster.com, just received an investment of an undisclosed amount from Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive.

Goldberg assures that SocialMedian is "not yet another Digg clone" and is "a fresh new take on delivering more personalized news inspired by people with similar interests."

Another pioneering venture was made by Tribune in naming radio-veteran Lee Abrams as its first-ever Chief Innovation Officer. Starting his position on April 1, Abrams will be "responsible for innovation across Tribune's publishing, broadcasting, and interactive divisions."

Randy Michaels, Tribune's president of broadcasting and interactive hopes that Abrams' creative work at radio stations, such as inventing the "album-oriented rock" format for FM, will help Tribune "pump new life into [their] content, re-energize [their] brands, and get people thinking and working together like they never have before."

Read Abrams's blog for his ideas on slogans and marketing for newspapers.
