The
Los Angeles Times has appointed
Russ Stanton to be the paper’s top editor. This is a significant move because Stanton was formerly the paper’s Innovation Editor, showing how much emphasis the paper is now putting on digital operations.
"The decisive factor was who can best lead change in the newsroom. We are literally in a battle to save the future of this great newspaper, and we have to change to survive and thrive in the new world," said publisher
David Hiller.
Stanton succeeds
Jim O’Shea, who reportedly left after
disputes about newsroom budget cuts.
The paper also named
Bob Bellack, currently LA Times Media Group’s Chief Financial Officer, and General Manager
Rob Barrett, to head the digital operations of the paper.
Bellack was named president of Development and Digital Media and Barrett will become Senior Vice President for Interactive.
