NBC and Fox jointly launch Hulu

NBC Universal and News Corp have launched their joint video venture, Hulu.com. The site features programming from both NBC and Fox networks, including hits such as ‘24’ or ‘The Simpsons’.

The site represents broadcasters’ response to illegal reproductions of their content. Instead of having viewers watch low-quality, burned versions of shows on YouTube, viewers can now see the ‘real’ show on Hulu.

While the content is roughly the same, this brings ad revenue to the content providers (NBC and Fox), as well as increases brand loyalty.

To be able to hope to compete against a market giant such as YouTube, the networks were forced to join hands to produce this content aggregator. An idea for newspapers?
