Portugal: Vasp brings international dailies to stands 'instantaneously'

In the last two months, the Vasp Group, Portugal’s leading press distribution company, has made several well-known international newspapers available on newsstands ‘in real time’, sometimes even before they are available in their cities of origin.

In August, The Washington Post, Folha de São Paulo, Tribune de Geneve and The Evening Standard were made available in Portugese newsstands on the very day of their publication in the country of origin.

The Post and Fohla are actually placed in Lisbon stands about four hours before they’re even available in their cities of origin, due to time difference.

Vasp conducted similar operations with the Swiss 24 Heures and Danish daily Ekstra Bladet, which are now available in the morning in Portugal. Even more recently, Vasp added three other European dailies.

This brings to nine the number of international dailies launched in Portugal by Vasp. This is made possible through the company’s “local printing & distribution” strategy. Vasp’s Digital Printing Services branch takes care of the printing of the papers in Portugal, which are then delivered to the newsstands.

This new technology will help newspaper brands develop international recognition, as they can now easily be digitally sent and printed in a foreign country. Digital developments don't simply help papers develop international online editions, they can also lead to their expansion in print.
