This fall will see the export of the revered Times of London, or at least its brand name, to Eastern Europe with a launch of a national daily in Poland.
The Polish regional newspaper group Polskapresse, owned by the German publisher Verlagsgruppe Passau, has entered into a deal with the Times which includes "editorial cooperation and the usage of the British newspaper's brand." It will be using the Times title, which a spokesman said "is the best example of successful changes of the European press market in recent years," to help the launch of its first national paper.
The Polskapresse press release makes clear that the deal will not affect its regional publications.
