Bristol’s The Western Daily Press has organized an in-paper and online appeal to help families affected by flooding in Gloucestershire and Herefordshire.

Using an exchange forum on westerndailypress.co.uk, the appeal calls for both monetary donations and necessities such as sleeping bags, bedding, and volunteer manpower to help in the area.

The Western Daily Press has a significant area of coverage, including Bath, Swindon, Bridgwater, Taunton, Weymouth, Gloucester, and Cheltenham.

“It’s an area known for its generosity, and many had begun to offer money and goods before the weekend was out, but in an uncoordinated way,” explained editor Andy Wright of the paper’s organized efforts.

Through its appeal, the paper is reaching out the community in a time of need, demonstrating a commitment to its local readers.  “We have launched our flood appeal to help those in need, and we hope our readers will give generously, both in cash and kind,” added Wright, who will collaborate with rescue teams to distribute the donations.

what McClatchy has contracted doing with Yahoo is the wave of the future. Both will benefit from this news resource arrangement. Newspapers still play the major part of indepth, demographic reporting in the United States, and this union proves the newsprint will be entering its golden age.
