Free daily circulation reaches 40 million
FDN reports that the increase was due to “circulation increases and some updates,” rather than more freesheet launches. In fact, the FDN newsletter reports that for the first time in the history of free dailies, there have been more closures than launches. Nevertheless, new titles are set to launch soon in Israel, the UK, Slovenia, the Netherlands, and perhaps, the US and parts of Asia.
Compared to 2005, the FDN barometer reports an increase from 140 to 210 titles around the world and almost a doubling in circulation, from approximately 24 million to 40 million.
