UK dominant market for online ad spend in Europe
A report by the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) indicates that the UK is the dominant market for Internet advertising, with more than one-third of total online spending in Europe last year.
The UK, Germany, and France were the three top countries in terms of online ad spending. But the UK was way out in front with 39% of total ad spend in Europe, or €3.1 billion, while Germany had 22%, or €1.752 billion and France had 15%, or €1.179 billion.
Catherine Evans, project manager for the report at IAB Europe said: "These figures underline the fact that the UK is by far the most mature online advertising market in Europe."
In terms of online spending as a percentage of overall media ad spend, the Netherlands is at the top of the list, with 13% of total media spending going toward online. Denmark is second with 11.9%, the UK is third with 11.4%, France is fourth with 9.5% and Germany is fifth with 9%.
